When Mcdaniel College’s infrastructure requirements had outgrown their previous web hosting solution, they relied on Willett + Associates for a technical solution and a roadmap for their expansion.
Our response was to migrate their site from a single hosting platform to a more robust and flexible solution using Amazon Web Services (AWS). By moving their hosting to the Amazon Cloud, we were able to build a sophisticated fault-tolerant IT solution at a fraction of the cost of dedicated servers. AWS provides a rich toolset that aligns perfectly with the needs of a modern high traffic website. Their time-based cost model lets us select and size network components such a load balancers and application servers appropriately so that our clients are not paying for capacity that not being utilized.
However, the flexibility of a cloud solution means that when your site becomes viral (hopefully for the best of reasons), your site hosting can scale, bringing additional servers and resources online automatically to support the demand. This ensures that everyone has an excellent user experience on your site whether there are 5 people browsing or 5,000.
In the end, we were able to build a hosting platform specifically designed and perfectly sized for their ExpressionEngine supported website.
